This one has been sitting on my shelf for a long time. I knew i would have to be in the right mood to read it. It is a heartbreaking story that feels close to home for me. The setting is my home town and the story feels so real and similar to the stories of the youth I work with that this was a hard read.

Similar vibes to April Raintree.

This was a heavy read. It has a trigger warning in the front of the book due to violence and sexual assaults within it. That being said, this was a well written story about the Metis in Manitoba and well deserving of its book awards.

This story was told from several different perspectives, which really created depth to the main plot and helped you to understand the background of various people and thus why their children ended up the way they were (both good and bad). I truly had compassion for all the characters within the story for many were victims of circumstances beyond their control. I had little knowledge of their culture or land so it also was interesting for me to read about another part of Canada.

A heavy winter read and highly recommended novel.

Absolutely heart wrenching and important story of the lives of three indigenous women, their families, how all of their lives intersect over the years, and how they are treated within the community they all live in.
