omggggg i love this series !!!

okay so for a while i shipped stevie and david, then stevie and nate, then stevie and hunter, and then overall picked david. 

the ellingham family is so dear to my heart i love them. and dottie epstein !! they all deserved sm better my heart breaks for them all. 

the only thing that annoys me is the stereotyping. this book automatically assumed all republicans are bad and racist and sexist which def isn’t true. i get there are DEFINITELY some people (not just republicans) like that and its completely disgusting bhr just assuming they all are is kinda annoying ? 

(if we’re being so fr i hated david for like 99% of the series and tbh im still not a huge fan 😭)

This was terrible. I invested three books worth of time and money for THIS???????

Already, the culprit of the original mystery being Marsh was disappointing, not because I had predicted this from book one, but because money isn't an interesting motive!! It sucks!! And then Johnson goes and makes it the motive for the MODERN murders too???? And the murderer is a bare sketch of a character at that??? And also, it turns out Alice died of measles???? Did someone say massive cop out??? And then Stevie doesn't want to present the evidence about Alice's real parents, because that way the money stays with the school. With a PRIVATE. SCHOOL. Set up by a BILLIONAIRE. And people go on thinking Alice is missing instead of paying her respects and letting her rest. Other annoying things include: nothing actually happening in this book and a lack of tension despite the really interesting premise of being snowed in on a mountain in the middle of nowhere; David suddenly being okay with Stevie; Frankie and Eddie serving no purpose or character arc beyond hoarding evidence for future Stevie to find; and finally, the random moose motif that doesn't mean anything. The only thing saving this book from a one star is that it was borderline entertaining and creepy.

this was definitely the BEST of the trilogy but as a whole the trilogy as a whole i think is 5 stars but this one is my favorite for sure. I love the relationship between all the characters and i think that Nate is autistic coded because he felt very on the spectrum to me (as someone on the spectrum) this book was so suspenseful and the dual timelines was really fun. such a good ending to the trilogy. i can’t wait to start the box in the woods and continue on in this universe with these characters.

If you want a book that will provide a complete escape into a world so vivid that you can see the movie play in your mind as you read, then you need to read this book. This series keeps getting better and better, making me physically incapable of putting this last book down. Again, like the second book, romance took a backseat to the main plot. However, the main plot was so captivating and exhilarating that it was still amazing! All of these twists and turns had me utterly transfixed. I found myself transported into the world of Ellingham Academy, seeing the movie play out in my mind. This book and Johnson’s writing style made me feel like I was a part of the story; we completely see into Stevie’s mind and thought process, like the reader is living vicariously through her. I was so enthralled by this book that, despite the over 100-degree weather, I reached for a blanket because it was snowing in the book. I truly felt transported to Burlington, Virginia. Maureen Johnson, again, created an amazing story, with an enthralling plot and extremely intricate twists and turns that kept me constantly on the edge of my seat. I love these books, I stand by these books, and I will fight for these books. While I acknowledge that this book could have stood on its own as a great ending to the trilogy, I am glad that the story is not quite over yet. I am very excited to see where this new story, with the same characters that I love, will take us! I cannot wait another second to read A Box in the Woods, so I am glad that I had it already in my personal library. Again, thank you, Maureen Johnson.
