I know reality TV dating shows are super problematic IRL but I love reading about them in romance novels. There's less emphasis on the actual contestants in this one because it's obvious the focus is on Conner, British cardboard dreambland man.
Overall a fun audiobook listen, albeit very hetero-monoga-norm and a bit drawn out (which made it good for occasionally zoning out while drowning; didn't miss much). Forbidden romance, precocious tweens, reality TV, questionable scifi-ish premise of using DNA to find a romantic match (which I guess is more fleshed out in the first book - didn't realize this was a sequel when I started reading it).

4.5 stars and a favorite… possibly upgrading to 5 stars, it was that close… mostly because REALITY DATING SHOW BACKDROP eeeeeeeek
Here’s the thing: I just read Book Lovers, and technically, that was 5 stars. That is superbly written- probably better than this one- but I didn’t enjoy it like a 5 star. And I DID enjoy this one like that.
True Love Experiment has all my favorite tropes: crazy heroine/stoic man, dating show, and a world/characters I am already familiar with, so it felt like sliding back into bed after too much time away. In fact, I’m sad it’s over.
For the record, you don’t have to read Soulmate Equation first… but you’ll probably want to read it if you read this one, so you might as well do it in order. I loved checking in on Jess and River (and Juno, obvs).
