How frickin' cute was this picture book! I enjoyed it more than I thought, it felt so whimsical and delightful. I felt like a kid again, wondering how many more animals could sneak in that mitten. Made me want to learn to knit so I could make my own magical snow-white mitten and see how many Kikis (my puppy) I can fit.
My only gripe is that I am not a big fan of the illustrations, they seemed too realistic for my taste but I won't lie that they fit in with the book's aesthetic and atmosphere.

Cute take on an Ukrainian fairy tale, though definitely much less gruesome. This is a more humorous take on the story. I've always loved Jan Brett's detailed and colorful illustrations. I read this one as a kid and while it's not my favorite of hers, I really enjoyed the story, snowy atmosphere, and the cute animals. The end picture always makes me laugh!
Silly but sweet, with great illustrations. I love to read it every year around Christmas.
Jan Brett writes a beautiful story but the true star of the show are her gorgeous illustrations. I love how the stunning art in the central picture is augmented by the secondary story being told in the images in the side bar. She is a tee master of her craft.
I enjoy the story of this, but I LOVE it for the art.
