I'm glad I read this, but it really started to feel like a chore to finish. It is objectively good, but my interest was up and down throughout. Once I got into it, I flew through a third of it and then slowed down again. I will definitely finish the series eventually, but I'm going to need a break.

This book was a beasssstttt! But one full of sexy encounters, dazzling politics, a beautiful and rich world, and intrigue! So much intrigue. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I really dislike a couple of narrative choices the author made. Lots of “I didn’t see it then but now I know” or “Someone told me later” which always draws me out of the story when I’m reading it. It makes me feel like I’m reading someone’s diary after a big event has gone down, not experiencing it with them. Pretty much my only complaint though! (The impossible to pronounce names didn’t help but I’m not holding that against anyone)

One of my all-time favourite books and favourite trilogy. This is a series I can read over and over again. The first 1/3 of the book can be a bit of a slog to get through as it takes it time building an elaborate world with intricate characters. There is a lot to set up. But one the action starts it doesn't stop.
