decent, the ending fell off a bit, i think some parts were unnecessary like the conversation nico had with adriana about raping her and then he never cleared it up with her. He’s also excessively overprotective her it’s borderline abusive. some of the things elena says are just cringey to me and i wish she had more of a backbone when it came to him

OK. Alright. I accidentally read this in a day and a half.

But c’mon. It pulls you in like quick sand. With the banter and the tension and Giannas personality. I couldn’t put it down. Freaking loved it.
I think I might have enjoyed it more than Sweetest Oblivion - I related to Gianna more than Elena. Anyway. It’s steamy. It has its sad and raw moments. It’s hilarious. I’m content. But I am fucking mad that I finished it. On to the next I guess.

I loved the ambiance, 50s music, and decor in the beginning. The ending was satisfying too, however, before the end there was one chunk of story which I felt was irrelevant and it slowed my interest (the car show bit) but other than that, and ofc accepting the fact that this is a mafia romance so feminism has kinda been left at the door, this was an enjoyable first time mafia romance.

It’s a mafia romance so there’s parts concerning organized crime (death, murder, gun violence, regular violence, blood). There’s some sexist elements (women in the family aren’t allowed to choose their husbands-arranged marriage; they’re seen as tainted if they have sex before marriage).

Nico’s mom was a drug addict, and his step-mother uses cocaine frequently (drug use). Nico became head of the family bc his mother died of an overdose and his father was shot (death of parent). Elena’s sister becomes pregnant with her boyfriends child while engaged to Nico (pregnancy & infidelity). Most of not all of the men cheat on their wives/partners frequently (infidelity).

Soooo, obviously my feminism went ou the window when reading this. there is SOOOO much tension in the novel I was trying to catch my breath. NGL really toxic relationship and also just like a really toxic environment. Of course that is to be expected in a mafia novel, but sometime I thought it was a little over board.
