Fun book. Not as good as 'Mary Poppins' or Edward Eager's 'Tales of Magic' series, but still enjoyable and sure to tickle the imagination.

Beware: Contains VERY racist stereotypes. The movie with Angela Lansbury is so much better in every way.

What an adorable hoot this was. Talk about completely different from how I remember the movie!

This is one of my favorite movies. It has been since I was a kid. I know am in the minority in thinking it better than Marry Poppins...but I do.

I had never, however, read the book (or books--it's two short books). What fun! It is, of course a TOTALLY different story than the movie (no Nazis or talking animals or soccer matches and Emelius Brown fake magician is actually Emelius Jones a 17th Century Necromancer)...but it is also fun to find bits and pieces of the movie in the story...like Miss Price mentioning "a bad case of Cosmic Creepers" which is the name of her scraggly black cat in the movie. I totally love this book.

I grew up watching this movie. It was so interesting to read the differences!

Going to jail, an unexplored island of cannibals, and going into the past to meet a non-magical necromancer. A lot of things were different than the book, but still an enjoyable story.

Recently found on my folks' bookshelf. Started reading to my nephews, and just had to go back and finish it. A fun nostalgic re-read.

Onestamente mi aspettavo di più.
