The first part of book is called The Magic Bedknob, where we get to know the three siblings, Carey, Charles and Paul, and Miss Price.
Here they are staying at the aunt's place in the countryside and adventure to London and to an "uninhabited" Island called Ueepe.

The second half of the book is called Bonfires and Broomsticks, where their adventures continue with Miss Price. This time they are staying at Miss Price's house and travel into the past...

Oh, and I just want to add as well that I've seen the movie adaptation only now (December 2015) and definitely liked the book better. The movie wasn't that bad but a lot of the book story line and characters work were left out.

I wanted to re-read this after going to see a stage production of Bedknobs and Broomdticks based on the Disney film rather than the book. I remember having a copy of this when I was younger but my only memory was that I didn't like it because it was so different to the film. While re-reading, I was amazed by how familiar it was suggesting to me that I had actually read it many times. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but really feel everything was underdeveloped. Only a few adventures actually happen and you wish more opportunities to use the bed were actually included. I do enjoy the ending though.

Reread 2023:

I'm now the proud owner of my own copy. I read this with my mom this time, which always makes a book more special. It took us a bit to finish but we both really enjoyed it. She said she likes them more than the movie. The ending still got to me. Still a 5 star rating.

First read 2022:

When I got this from the library, I had no idea that there were not 1 but 2 stories! Imagine not only my initial surprise to learn that there's a sequel to Bed-Knob and Broomstick , but my excitement that I had BOTH stories nicely compacted into one book. I'll review both stories separately.

Bed Knob and Broomstick (finished 1/10/22): First off- if you go into this with the Disney movie in mind, stop right now and mentally burn that plotline or you'll be sorry. War-time London? No. Life or death soccer game? No. Professor Brown? No. You get the idea. But despite the major differences, this was a very entertaining read full of adventure, fantasy, and yes, magic. As a rule, I'm not a fan of magic, wizardry, or witchcraft. Never read Harry Potter but am a fan of LOTR...go figure. Anyway, while Miss. Price is a "witch" of sorts, in the end, she changes her tune towards this hobby. Mostly out of guilt but it was an interesting and unexpected turn. So if you're not a fan of all things magic, I wouldn't write this one off immediately. There weren't near as numerous adventures as there were in the movie, but I actually like it better this way because it was more realistic and believable (If you can even use those 2 words to describe this book). As for the characters- Miss. Price was sharp and unpleasant but obviously cared for the children. Carey was bossy, Charlie was nearly non-existent, and seemed overshadowed by his siblings. Paul was clever, observant, and seemed one step ahead of the others. All in all a decent read and an escape from reality. Onto book 2!

Bonfires and Broomsticks (finished 1/11/22): UGH! I hate how long it's taken me FINALLY review this gem of a book! This has to go down as one of my top favorite Disney adaptations, right alongside [b:Banner in the Sky|333766|Banner in the Sky|James Ramsey Ullman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347352439l/333766._SY75_.jpg|324268] So everything I said earlier about important things missing from the book that were kind of prevalent in the movie...a chunk of them were in the sequel and may I just say, I like the sequel even better than the first. Time travel, an adorable love interest, and a very bittersweet ending left me in one of those book-comas where you just can't bring yourself to read anything else because it just doesn't compare and all you can really focus on is *THAT* book. The only cons I had were a few unanswered questions and the fact that there isn't more of this series.

Overall, a most enjoyable escape and one that I will treasure.

I normally do not find the movie better then the book but in this case I did. Even though it was interesting it just didn't capture me as the movie. Which for me is very odd to say I like the movie over the book even if I saw the movie first.

Would I read the book again most likely not. I would only read it if my nephew or niece wanted me to read it but I would try and talk them into reading something else for them.

Fun and a little spooky season taste for the hot summer days. Ready to watch Angela Lansbury in the movie.

I remember loving this movie as a child but after reading the book I'm realizing that I either remember VERY little about the actual plot or the movie is vastly different from the book (or books as apparently Bedknob & Broomstick was originally two books). I thought the stories were interesting but something in the writing fell flat for me and it took me awhile to finish reading.
