“Paul twisted. The bed gave a sickening lurch. The night seemed to turn blue, a blue that glittered like a flying tinsel ribbon, a rushing, shimmering blue turning to gold, to light, to heat—to blinding sunshine. Sand flew stinging past their faces as the bed skidded, then bumped, then stopped. They had arrived.”⁣

What a charming, magical little book! I loved reading about Charles, Carey, Paul, and their adventures with (and sometimes without) Miss Price. They seem to luck their way out of every jam. And it ended in a completely unexpected way! A delight! ⁣

If you had a magical bedknob that could transport you anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’m finding a pattern in the books we’ve been reading for the Disney Origins Bookclub - many of the books are a far cry from the movies they inspired. This one was a fun tale of a magic BedKnob but that was about as far as the links go. Other than an outdated incident with “savage cannibals” the story stands the test of time well and is worth the read.

That was lovely! Very different to the movie of course but still cute, simple and magical!

To acknowledge the recent passing of Angela Lansbury I watched ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ which lead me to read the novel. It is a charming book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The plot is quite different from the movie but just as enjoyable. Recommended for children of all ages.
