Fun follow up to The Darkhouse, progressing the story and leaving lots of questions unanswered. I'm looking forward to glomming some more.

Again, well-plotted and the story and chemistry between the characters is very compelling. But again, used the term "tard" multiple times and then the white kids are invited to do a sweat lodge, a la the super uncomfortable X-Files plotline. So, entertaining and incredibly problematic all at the same time! Also, I'm so tired of people who do not take medications for their mental health writing about how "alive" a character finally feels once they stop taking a necessary medication for "bipolar or whatever". I have a feeling that the plot is heading to Dex not actually having a mental illness, but don't act like people who need medication just need to feel their feelings. This is so, so dangerous.

Another freaky story. This series always freaks me out. I think it does so bad because the characters of the story are so freaked out themselves. Usually when we read these kind of stories the main character takes whatever they are bravely like its normal. This makes it's so much more real that they are just as scared as the readers. Their attraction to each other confuses me. Once moment they are super attracted to each other and the next it's like they hate each other. I'm not sure what to make of it. I want them to be a couple but I don't want them to kinda. I'm not sure how I feel about Dex yet I don't trust him. If he's so worried about Jennifer he shouldn't lead Perry on it's not fair. I can't wait to read the next one.

This was definitely creepier than the first book! And I've already grown to love the characters so I was more invested and worried about their safety. My one comfort is that I know there are several more books in the series, so they MUST survive.

Red Fox takes place in New Mexico, Perry and Dex are investigating a series of strange occurrences on a farm. The tension is pretty much immediate, for numerous reasons and in a variety of ways.

First of all, it's Perry and Dex's relationship. He has a girlfriend, but Perry is falling in love with him and now, because of the Christian beliefs of the couple who own the farm, Perry and Dex are pretending to be a married couple, sharing a room and everything. So yeah, tension! I find the potential for cheating problematic here and while they aren't married, I still wish he would end things with his girlfriend or stop flirting with Perry.

Secondly, that couple? Well the wife is a bitch. Not going to sugar coat it, she's a bitch and everyone - even her husband - knows it. So why do they put up with her? Well, she's blind and maybe that gets her some sympathy? Anyway, their conversations and interactions are just creepy and tense.

Thirdly, the whole reason they're investigating this case is an old band friend of Dex's called him up. Turns out, they have a complicated and tense history. And, oh, Perry find him very attractive and Dex is taken so... flirting ensues there a bit too. Again, tension.

Finally, the actual case. HOLY SHIT things get creepy here. I don't want to spoil, but there's some scary moments, there's some skinwalker action, and even an attempted rape (so trigger warning!). There's this one scene that my skin literally crawled with goosebumps.

I should note, I am a horror WHIMP and some of y'all may laugh at the moments that freaked me out. But nothing has gotten too ghoulish or gross for me. And Karina Halle is just a really great author, so I decided to give this series a chance in light of the season. And now I'm hooked.

Also, I was on the fence about Jo Raylan's narration of the first book. After listening to this one I think it's fair to say it was me, not her, on that first book. I do still have to listen more carefully than I do other books, but that would be my only complaint.

Qualifies for COYER Scavenger Hunt item #45 - Step outside your comfort zone and read a book in a genre you have read less than 3 times this year. I've read Horror only 2 other times this year.

4.5 stars!!!

I loved Red Fox!!! It was only the second book in this series, but I know in my gut it will be one of my favorites. I loved the new characters we were introduced to. I'm totally hoping we get more Maximus!!!

Easily my favorite of the series. It was spooky, it was twisty, I finally started to see bits and pieces of a romance plot line.

So it's safe to say that I'm not going to be very comfortable around animals for awhile, cause that was a bit intense, especially crazy birds trying to tear Perry's eyes out.
I'm in love with Perry and Dex, their adventures and their bickering, but also the moments when they're both sweet and honest with each other.
I think I'm addicted to this series and I'm off to read the next one.

"As long as you're around, I'll be alive." --Dex

This book made me love Dex and Perry even more! These two characters made the book for me. I liked the story line a little more in the first book of the series, but this one still held my interest till the end.

Karina really knows how to capture the readers. I love the way she developed the characters. They are both so likable!

Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
