I really enjoyed this book and looked forward to picking it up which is always a good sign.
The short stories dealt with some important themes and ones that are often backed away from. A couple were a little on the weird side but overall I liked this one and would defo recommend!

Snakebite was the best of these.
I'm normally not a fan of short story collections. I often find it hard to connect with independent narratives over a couple of pages but I was wholeheartedly invested in the stories of this collection. Saba Sams's writing is compelling and intuitive, these characters all feel authentic in their messiness. Her raw and deadpan storytelling is both hilarious and somewhat relatable as her characters are modern women facing mainly contemporary issues. Although this book is steeped in intensely dark themes and Sams does not shy away from the impact of each one on her characters, I found this book strangely uplifting. These characters do struggle but they are resilient and always seem to find a positive resolution and I found it oddly comforting to read this book at a time when the world seems so uncertain. I am so excited that this is Saba Sams's debut release, I can't wait to pick up whatever she writes next.

10 short stories about girlhood, mother-daughter and siblings dynamics, modern relationships and so on. Prepare for bittersweet, some endings reminded me somehow a bit of Black Mirror undertones.
Also you might want to check TW, like if you don’t like blood, I think you should avoid some of these stories!

A short story collection with different stories surrounding women. Numerous topics such as toxic friendships, jealousy, abortion, dating in modern life, lockdown and relationships with other women (friends, mothers, daughter etc) all being covered.
Each story in this collection was very different which was refreshing and all were written really well. Despite being short I felt connected to the characters and empathetic to them and their situations. I thought it was a really well written insight into Women’s minds and struggles they may face in modern society. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves complex female characters stories and where the main characters are flawed and realistic.
