Yikes. This started out as an intriguing dark thriller, but turned into a hot mess by about 60-70% and just kept getting worse from there. There are a lot of issues I had with the plotting and character development, but the thing that bothered me most was how superficial the mid 90s setting was. There were so many cultural elements that either didn't exist or were only barely starting to become popular by *late* 90s and sounded completely inane for high schoolers in conservative rural PA in 1996 to be discussing like pokemon, panic rooms, and cell phone reception. Either the author kept forgetting about the setting and made the story about the early 2000s, or she cut a lot of corners in her research. Boo.

I really wanted to like this one. The MC's beliefs were repetitive... while I agree with her, it became a bit frustrating. The suspense wasn't there and the twist fell flat.
