I massively enjoyed this. It had a Richard Yates vibe, a kind of suburban Americana setting and style but British, which really worked for me - also reminded me of a kind of more literary Mavis Cheek (whom I love). The plot truly pulled me along and the twist genuinely knocked me off my feet - did not see it coming! A subtle and moving ending, bringing some realism to what could have been a fantastic tale. Loved it - a new favourite. Highly recommended.

Gillade konflikten. Hennes åtrå, lust, intellektuella hunger och skam som får levas ut till fullo. Den va inte helt och fullt fängslande hela vägen igenom trots att kärnan va kittlande.

It's a very interesting perspective of a woman who leaves her family to live a new life. There's no sense of overly judging or supporting her actions. She is simply living the consequences of making this change in some lives it is devastating in others it is rewarding and in others it just is. The plot twist was quite shocking, did not see that coming.

Was worried it would be all about hippies and i hate hippies, or at least how they're depicted in fiction. insufferable annoying wankers. luckily, Hadley is interested in the same old thing (infidelity and its fallout). Shocking that there isn't more than one description of clouds in this novel. She's lost her way!
