Plot- none
Actions- what's that
Protagonists- can they even be called that?
My head hurts thinking why she did that, what's happening, where is the author going with this, what is poppy actually trying to do bla bla...

DNF- I wasn't feeling the romance. It felt very childish and just not believable.

Super (!!) slow start. But once I got about halfway through it picked up, and I couldn’t put it down for the last quarter!

So I know people hate this book. It is poorly written, predictable and clique. Regardless, I didn’t hate reading it but it really was ridiculous.
Poppy’s reactions to things were just not at all believable and totally immature. I can’t stand Hawke, he’s a creep and definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. It’s like they tried to take Captain Jack Sparrow and make him seem sexy

Second reread and I enjoyed it a lot more. I remembered some but not all of the important plot points, so it was almost like rereading it for the first time. You go through the book as sheltered as the main character and with tons of questions that which some get answered throughout the book, but for the most part the truth is told towards the end. And the ending leaves you wanting to hurry up and read the next one.

-------------------------------
Okay honestly I felt lost a good portion of the book with a shit ton of questions unanswered, but we were in the dark just as the main character was. Now I have less questions....kinda?

Going to read the next one

I was a little wary due to some of the reviews and held off reading for a little while but when I did I thorough enjoyed it.

The start definitely is a lot of world building and setting up the series, and some of the writing really didn’t  flow well and felt jarring in places, but once it got into the story that disappeared, or wasn’t obvious anymore, and was easily forgiven and forgotten.

Some of the plot I just knew was going to happen, but not in terms of huge sign posts that spoiled the reading, it was subtle enough that I just felt some of it was going to happen at some point, but there were also still plenty of surprises (small and large).

I’m really glad I did finally get round to reading it, and will be returning for the next one in the series after I finish my current library loans.
