Everything you ever wanted to know about the great American Dust Bowl, and I mean everything. This was really an eye-opener for me. I just can’t imagine what those people went through. I don’t think that most people today are hardy enough to survive such an event.

A thorough and interesting account of not only the dust bowl and how it happened, but the total horror that the people living there at the time had to endure. A little dry at times (ha), but the pacing was quick enough that it never felt like a slog. A great example of how the American mindset of “bigger is better” can all too quickly blow up in our faces. Example: The US government seeing the Great Plains, the native Americans and millions of bison that inhabited it and thinking they could do it better. Result: The freakin Dust Bowl.

I really have little idea just how difficult it was to survive in the dust bowl era.

Very slow and dry (ha) read. Ending up skimming blocks of text that while informative, were very boring.
