funny informative reflective medium-paced

3.5

I enjoyed the Good Place (not as much as Parks & Rec tho) and that background combined with involving the actors seemed like a fun angle for an audiobook, so I picked this up. With this book, Michael Schur basically becomes to moral philosophy what Andy Field is to statistics: I mean, you're still learning stuff but at least they work hard to make it more fun. While not all jokes worked equally, I did chuckle out loud at some points while listening to this during my runs. Above all, I appreciated its applicability to real life: I was constantly relating everything explained to discussions I've had in the past and other media consumed, and the same way around, ever since picking this up I am constantly associating parts of conversations with examples and ideas from this book. Obviously, this is an introduction so nothing in-depth should be expected, but even considering that, I am not completely sure how much this level of depth really adds to ethical decision making, compared to the common sense and reasoning one already applies. For that, it may not only have been to concise, but also too repetitive.
