Lena Dunham is far from perfect, and despite what people say, she is a good comedy writer and GIRLS is actually funny 3👧

Terribly offensive towards multiple collectives. Also, brilliantly written, engaging and relatable in some parts of it. So difficult to rate.

Funny as Lena Dunham can be, but not hilarious enough for me

I’m in the small majority who thinks Girls is one of the best comedies of all time so I had to check this out especially considering all the controversy. Touching on that first I have never heard of something so blown out of proportion. Reading through it I couldn’t believe the way people made it out to be sexual assault when it was clearly a young child with no malicious intentions. There are definitely things to critique Lena Dunham for but this is not it. Beyond that I enjoyed the book it’s not life changing and I’m not sure any of it will leave an impact on me long term but it was a decent read.

This is very complicated. I enjoyed parts of this book, but many of things described about Lena's relationship with her sister were triggering.

Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this one. I thought I was going to love it but I felt like I was being thrown about from anecdote to anecdote and could never really get into anything of substance. Several of Lena’s stories seemed a bit pointless and they didn’t link very well.

I liked the commentary on growing up but I just expected more from it. I related to the section titled ‘My Top 10 Health Concerns’ which explores how we can go crazy worrying about things that might go wrong! I also thought the email writing section was a great idea but again they weren’t fully developed and it moved on so quickly to the next section. Her writing is very descriptive which I like but often was too much information needed for what she was talking about.

Overall I was disappointed and won’t be reading this again.
