I had no idea this was linked to Saving Francesca, it wasn't until almost 85% through that I realised who Frankie was and the puzzle pieces fell into place. Now it makes me want to re-read Saving Francesca.

I just love Melina's writing. You just get so swept away with the story and characters. It wasn't her best, but still wonderful all the same.

Wow, I am really sad. This book was why I didn't really want to continue reading about the Saving Francesca gang. They are too human. In an ideal world, I could pretend like they all lived in the same town, had kids in the same town, and hung out all the time. Like the show FRIENDS but in Sydney, Australia.

Unfortunately, as we all know, real life doesn't work that way. This book hurt, because it reminded me how everyone faces the same thing. After high school/college, what happens to everyone? Where does everyone go? Everyone doesn't stay in the same town, people have ambitions and dreams, and sometimes it takes them far away from the people they love.

Luckily, this book also reminds you that, even if you are far away, you'll still always be friends.

I recently did a re-read of Saving Francesca and The Piper's Son after finding out about The Place on Dalhousie.

I enjoyed this more than The Piper's Son, even if Rosie was a little unbearable. There was a lot of grief here, as with the other two books, but also a lot of hope.

It was great to see more of Jimmy and find out what had happened to him during the time of The Piper's Son.

Some have complained of too many characters, but I think that is just how Marchetta writes. Big families and communities and friend groups. I didn't find them difficult to keep track of, but perhaps that is because I read the other two books first and was aware of who everyone was.

The only question that remains is, when do Tara, Siobhan and Justine get their own stories?

I loved the characters in this book - they all felt so real, like people you would meet in real life. And like people in real life, they and their actions could be quite frustrating! But there was such warmth and humour in this novel, I was rooting for them all. Audiobook is fantastic.

My God, reading about Frankie and Will, Tom and Tara, Jimmy and Justine and Siobhan feels just like coming home. No one writes family and friends and grief like Melina Marchetta. So much heart.
