I was so hooked and really had no idea WHO the hell it was. Honestly I think I guessed every single person at some point. I really thought it was Brent at first, but then she died. Next I thought for like a second: maybe Armstrong? But no, I decided quite quickly that was unlikely. He was a squishy soul. Then my two main suspects were Vera and the detective. I thought maybe the latter was just pretending to be a bit witless, but no, that was genuine. Vera was one coldblooded lass, but alas, nor was it her. The Judge did come up in my thoughts, of course. But I actually thought he was too obvious. All the clues pointed towards him, to be honest, and I thought that would be the perfect diversion from the real murderer, which, upon his apparent death, became a cemented fact for me. But of course, twisty Christie, shoulda known there had to be at least ONE fake death among the lot. Well, I really did gasp at the end when everything was revealed. I'm almost disappointed it was him, but it makes so much sense. He was in the ideal position job-wise (only the detective compared in that), he was clearly the most coldly intelligent, he was always the one at the helm, leading the group in where their thoughts travelled, and he also just had that vibe. The potential killer without remorse vibe. I also like how this story grapples with the idea and virtue of justice. At what price should it be exacted? How far can one go? Technically this book just follows the rule of stealing from a thief isn't stealing. They were all objectively bad people. They killed others. If through neglect, carelessness, a planned act or simply by sitting back and letting it happen, they were each and every one a murderer. So is it not justice for them to be murdered in turn? I suppose that depends on your definition of justice. Personally, I don't think that way. To me there was justice in Hugo leaving Vera, justice in the Rogers living the rest of their lives jittery with fear and guilt, justice in Armstrong being a puny little coward. Not a justice that balances out the original offense, but a sense that they didn't just get off the hook. In general, the idea of murdering someone for being a murderer doesn't morally appeal to me. But this book perhaps shows exactly that. What the reality of that philosophy really looks like. Are you reading these killings, feeling vindicated? Oh yes, finally, you're all dead a-holes! No. At least I wasn't. I felt they had done awful things. Yet I still flinched when awful things were in turn done unto them. Well, whatever the case, whatever conclusions one might draw from such a philosophical debate, I can say one thing with certainty: I am sooooooo reading another Agatha Christie. What a badass

I knew the title, of course, especially because it was changed a few years ago, but I knew nothing about the story and although I am a fan of Agatha Christie’s novels, I have my favorites and this one will be among them because I loved it! I was hooked from the beginning and the suspense just grew bigger and bigger… especially when you understand the main “hint” of the murders logic. It was a bit different, it was more of a murder mystery than a crime novel and I liked it.

This book is cool because I came in thinking that it will be the same format as those of the Hercule Poirot series. This one it was so much harder to guess who was the murderer so that was very cool! Sticking to the theme of the nursery rhyme also made this book really really cool. Overall I'm super impressed with the storyline.
