This was a good quick read. That does not mean, by any means, that it was lacking. It had a good plot. The characters were likeable (and some very unlikable on purpose). At first I didn't know what connection the elderly couple had with the 2 main families but when it clicked, it clicked! My heart broke for little Mia and it made me cry (or come close to it) quite a few times. My only complaint is that we didn't get to see the justice served for a certain character. I would've liked to know how bad they were suffering because they sure as heck deserved to.

Sharon is outside in her garden one evening watching a lunar eclipse when she spots a little girl in her neighbours house washing dishes at the sink. It seems strange as it's late at night and Sharon is left puzzled. When Sharon takes in Niki an eighteen year old former foster child the pair become increasingly concerned as the Fleming family appear to have only one child, teenager Jacob. So who is the mystery little girl? Suzette Fleming Jacob's mother is a real nasty piece of work, she rules the whole household with an iron fist and is determined her family and home is her business. This is a dark, absorbing mystery, recommended.
A quick, easy read. The last half was definitely a page-turner...had me staying up past my bedtime to finish.

It’s an easy read with well developed characters. It’s not a very twisty plot but kept my interest wanting to find out how it would resolve.
This book is much different than the ones I’ve been reading. Lots of mysteries and thrillers. But this book was very touching and had just the right amount of push at the climax. I’m so happy that I read this book, even if it isn’t an adrenaline inducing ride.
Highly predictable. Lacks depth but a decent quick read.
Another underrated thriller, less twisty and more just suspenseful! Great characters, and love the way the foster care system was written about.
Another one that the audiobook helped, at least for me. Because it switches POV/character focus without a name or header, so reading the ebook got confusing until I heard the narrator's inflection change.
