Harry Potter: Eine Geschichte voller Magie by J.K. Rowling, British Library

One might be surprised to know that Jo Rowling (her name isn't "J.K." - hehe) did TONS of research whilst writing the Harry Potter series. This book, Harry Potter: A History of Magic is the complementary book to the British Library's Harry Potter exhibit. It covers each of the main subjects that are offered at Hogwarts and gives the real world inspiration. Even werewolves, giants, trolls, acromantulas, all the things!

One of my favorite things about listening to this book is the use of appropriate voices. Example: The brilliant Eddie Redmayne read bits of the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. How awesome is that?

Another cool bit is that the audiobook version isn't just someone reading from the pages. It is mostly hearing the people who were involved with the exhibition, lore experts, audiobook narrators (Jim Dale and Stephen Fry, artists), curators, etc. discuss how things fit into the Wizarding World and what Jo Rowling used as inspiration. That's pretty nifty for nonfiction. The only bummer is not having the visuals that the book-book has.

For lovers of lore and want to know every little thing about the potterverse. I absolutely ADORED reading this. I'm sad I can't actually go to the exhibit but this book makes me feel like I basically did anyway. Highly highly suggest.

Such a gorgeous book! Every page is bursting with historical context to further enrich the Harry Potter universe.

Perfect for people who love the books and the extra info stored on Pottermore

My favourite parts are the pictures of JKR’s original notebook pages and early drafts including a detailed plot of Order of the Phoenix. I am also deeply in love with all of Jim Kay’s portraits that are owned by Bloomsbury- I really hope they eventually make those available to buy as prints!

Ugh why did I torture myself with this? Every Harry Potter book but the original 7 sucks. DID NOT WANT.

I didn’t realize how nonfiction this would be. I wasn’t really in the mood for it, and didn’t find it interesting enough to keep going.
