CW for Classism and Ableism
I’m really ending 2023 on a bang by reading this because I was absolutely glued to the pages and stayed up much later than I should have just to see what would happen. This felt very fairytale-like and I kind of loved that. It really feels like the best kind of guilty pleasure, with just the right amount of intrigue and action. It was seductive, exquisitely written and even a little heart breaking.
Poet and Briar made for such an enthralling pair and although this was very heavy on the spice, in my opinion it was also somehow an amazing slow burn. I will definitely read more in this series but I think this could easily be read as a stand alone.
The only thing that I would note is that at times the spice was written in a strange way and some of the scenes were probably drawn out for a little too long because it did become a bit repetitive, however I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I would recommend it if you love a secret romance or want to try reading something that feels like it’s somewhere between a historical romance and a romantasy.

In theory this book should have been great. Mystery, politics intrigues and romance. It’s not that, it is just a basic smut book. If you expecting that it might be a fun read. But there is no enemies to lover in this book. The main character never see each other as real enemies. It’s more of the “ I find you really sexy and hot but I am going to pretend I don’t” and then he does something that might be a slightly mean joke to her… that it.
If you expect some dimension and court drama, don't even bother. Just some blatant ableism that is seen as some moral dilemma at the end that feels very undeserved and it’s just there for “the drama”. The main character is so overwhelmingly the “good person” in the most boring way.
I kept reading hoping for a bit of depth, but in the end it’s just a sassy main character with a sad backstory that loses all her spunk after meeting just some guy that is just kinda described as being enchanting and everybody falls for but had no right to be or is ever mysterious or charming really and also has kinda a sad background story. But because she is sassy to him and that is not the norm for him they are in love. End story.
