This is an adorable book with beautifully sweet illustrations. The book follows a baby Asian elephant throughout its first day. The mother is loving and proud. The aunts, sisters, and cousins are introduced to the baby and celebrate with trumpets. And it enjoys its first bath in a lagoon, its first mud play, the shade of the trees, neighboring animals, the sparkling stars, and glowing moon. Everyone rejoices in the precious baby and it in their love.

I think this will appeal a lot more to adults than to kids. The illustrations are lush and inviting, but the text is just ho-hum.

Beautiful and very sweet book about a new baby being welcomed into the world. Lovely large colorful photos and a nice refrain for each page. Worked well in my baby storytime.
