Oh good lord, I should have realized I was getting myself into a Victorian sobfest. I was listening to this with my kids, but by the end I was more desperate to know that the poor orphan sisters had found themselves in better circumstances.

A wonderful Christmas read. Well written. A story about two orphaned sisters and their fight to survive the
many obstacles that stand in their way.

Sweet little book with a good ending. It felt like a Dickens book compressed into 3 hours.

An endearing, heartwarming book to end the year. The story is very simple and predictable but everything was executed perfectly, it didn't need any extra complexity. The little sister, Glory, was a bit whiny at first but soon grew onto her and appreciated her kind personality. I felt a connection to the big sister, Lucy, and whenever something unfortunate happened I could feel the emotions of distress or regret. The side characters were entertaining and definitely added something to the story, never being unnoticed. I can't vouch on how historically accurate the setting is but it didn't have a massive impact on the story. Overall, the book effectively expresses the theme of giving and is an easy book anyone can read.

We listened to the audiobook of this book yesterday on a small road trip. I had heard it was sad, but holy cow. I have to admit that about halfway through this book I was thinking I’d made a mistake, because my 9yo was like “This book is very depressing!”

But, it turns around. Stay strong. Ha! It’s a beautiful story, so well written, brings a great historical feel to it... it’s truly a classic. I think it’s been my all time favorite Christmas read aloud!

This is a sweet Christmas tale of sadness, tragedy, loyalty, and kindness. Very pleasant reading. Historical fiction.

As a person who as a child was a lover of dolls. I soo related to this story.

One doll could mean the world to a little girl and help her through the hardest things a little person can go through.
