This book was published in 2006 under a different name. Which makes sense because the writing is much less polished than The Nightingale. You can see the great author in there, mixed in with some cliche phrases and tell not show. There is also a definite early 2000s feel to the mental health parts.
Despite this I couldn't put the book down. I even cried at the end. I will continue to read this author's books. The three that I've read have been so different and interesting.

A psychologist tries to build trust with a child who walks out of the forest with a wolf pup and can’t communicate with anyone.
In tiny town in Oregon, a girl appears out of the deep woods one day. Seemingly a wild child, with no speech, Sherriff Ellie calls on her sister, renowned child psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Cates. A terrible tragedy has shattered Julia's confidence, but she comes back to her home town determined to help. She must face her demons along the way in order to find love.

Weakest book I’ve read from this author. Didn’t find it to feel authentic.

Bit wooden and stilted in places, very slow, not great dialogue, some characters felt a bit flat.
