I have read a lot of Kristin Hannah and this one was very thought-provoking and emotional for me. Highly recommend if you have not read it.
Feel it’s more like 3.5 but feeling generous. The first half is definitely very interesting as it borrowed the idea from histories of children being found on the wild or raised by nature and animals. Couldn’t put it down Ending was a bit meh. The lack of details on her parentage, the perpetrator and motive left gaping holes in the storyline.

The entire time I read this book I’ve been telling people it’s a Jodi Picoult book…whoops. I did enjoy this even though it could’ve been shorter and just as good. A feral child taken in by a police officer and psychologist…professional boundaries who? don’t know her. Interesting, sweet, challenging, with some characters that may make you roll your eyes but you root for anyway.

Oh Kristin Hannah, you’ve broken my cold heart once again! I’m not one to get emotional at books but this definitely did tug at my heartstrings a bit (not as much as The Women or The Nightingale did but there was still feels had.)
This story had multiple genres in it - a bit of mystery, romance, and fiction - and worked really well. I loved Julia’s storyline throughout the book and how deep and complex it was. The parts of the book where we were allowed to see what was going on in the girl/Alice’s mind really helped keep the story on track. The reveal of the girl’s/Alice’s past was quite the twist I didn’t see coming. I didn’t love Ellie’s and at times hers felt unnecessary and a bit too self-loathing. Other than that I felt the book was really good and one I enjoyed and couldn’t put down!

Moderate: Child abuse
Minor: Rape, Torture, Murder
An early Kristin Hannah, so not quite as polished as her later works, but a very interesting story that makes you care about her characters. Made me tear up at the end!
