Not my thing so it's difficult to judge. I'll give it a 50% rating to reflect this. I will not be reading any other LotR books.

I really tried to convince myself that I wouldn’t like the book as much as I loved the movies. I was wrong. The first book gave so much more insight into the lore of Middle Earth which made understanding their journey so much easier. The imagery was also insane; even thought I’ve seen the movies many times, the images in my head weren’t of the movie, they were of Middle Earth and the Company as Tolkien wrote them. I loved this book.
