This was a reread in my great Redwall reread that I started a few years back. This was never one of my favorites growing up, but I like Mariel. She's spunky and one of the few female leads that we get to follow. I had a good time with the journey and as usual absolutely love the hares. I feel like the storyline with Gaboul and the bell was super odd, but what can you do?

I mean, all the Redwall novels basically have the same plot, but it's comforting and I'm enjoying revisiting my favorite childhood series as an adult. I like how intense Mariel is, with her Gullwhacker.

One of my favorite redwall books.
Another good one from reading my partner to sleep! Also the first one with a heroine instead of a hero. Good shit.
It's remarkable how much Jacques writing has developed just in the first few books. 10/10 would recommend!
