I enjoyed this book, but some of the conversations/dialogue were too quickly resolved. The pacing was slightly too fast, and if some of the scenes had been slowed down, I would have bonded with the characters better.

Volrai is a precious cinnamon roll, and Zari is humorous, and I like dPia, but i felt like a lot of places where we could have seen more of their characters, it was rushed in order to get to the next scene.

DNFd at 15%. Liked the story but didn’t care for the writing style, namely the dialogue; especially on behalf of the FMC. Hers reads pouty and juvenile while his reads like that of an adult. It’s perplexing.

Pia, the female human lead, is the pilot of a cargo ship, happy to off Earth but wishing she was piloting something more exciting. When she has a catastrophic system failure, she's obliged to land on a random planet. Volrai, the male alien lead, is a shepherd for a critical animal species on his planet that is hunted by poachers for its pheromones. He intercepts the stranger, suspecting poachers, and is shocked to find himself attracted to her, even though she is forbidden. His sentient animal companion isn’t thrilled at all, and Pia isn’t excited to realise it’ll be days before she can contact anyone for help. But, as they travel, the attraction grows…

This story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting, sweet and steamy start to a new series. I enjoyed Volrai’s protectiveness and dedication to his role. I enjoyed Pia’s evolving view of the life Volrai led and her appreciation for his flock. I enjoyed their relationship development and the gradual intimate relationship, since Volrai had taken a vow of celibacy until he found his mate. I enjoyed their willingness to fight for their relationship, even against his leaders’ disapproval. I laughed at the animal companion and his antics and enjoyed the relationship development between him and Pia as well.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
