A great read.  The author highlights the limits of information and context.  The author acknowledges the  perspectives and disagreements in this field of research.  I would read more from this author.

So many names. Listened to the audiobook and they just washed over me. Maybe could have/ should have paid more attention.

I found the book interesting and informative, the writing engaging, but it doesn't quite live up to its title. One could sum up the book in a few sentences. (Therefore, no one can be surprised if I note the book got a bit repetitive.)

But. Since I knew very little about this period of antiquity, besides Egypt, I learned a lot, and can't sniff at that.

Will I read the sequel? Not sure at this point.
