“Story of Your Life” is so fucking good that it made me hate Arrival, previously touted as my favorite movie. Okay, I don’t hate Arrival; it’s a really good movie. But the short story is so fucking good for reasons that make sense for written word. The movie softens those weirder edges and makes them less sad, less strange. But “Story of Your Life” is strange in a way that is poignant and brutal. Arrival is still a very good movies in the ways it needs to be, but I prefer the strange.
