The writing style was good. The actual plot of the book was interesting from the stand point of observing what not to do regarding mental health.

However this book is not in any way a good book to read for life advice or for finding a good way to cope with depression. Think of this book and everything the MC does as everything not to do. The MC is deeply troubled and in need of actual help from an actual professional which she does not get. I was very concerned with the ending of the book because it is not at all accurate to the realities of mental health and life itself. She doesn’t actually deal with anything she struggles with, she just avoids it… which is not possible in reality.

PSA to everyone reading this: medication is not a problem solver and will not fix you. You cannot run away from your problems, that includes sleeping.

Funny, cynical and easy to read. I thought I would be disappointed because of the hype but it brought me out of my reading slump. Ending is a little rushed but I liked the change of view of the main character

I don’t even know what to rate this.
**just did trigger warnings and this book has almost all of them**

First things first if you are depressed or struggling mentally DO NOT read this.
It felt like it was supposed to be depression porn.
For some reason I couldn’t stop reading it? Like everything was just going to horribly for this character I wanted to see the drama? Root for her? Hope things got better? I don’t know.
There was some things in this book that seemed from now and not when this book was set, like pop culture things I guess. And the ending of the year seemed very unrealistic just like a switch flipped. I don’t know.
This was like a fever dream. I put me in a reading slump and also made me kinda depressed/existential. I’ve heard that its supposed to be like what new york was like pre 9/11 but it’s focused on basically one character and 9/11 doesn’t come up until the last like 2 chapters.
Maybe because I don’t remember 9/11 I don’t understand. But I just don’t get how this severely struggling person is supposed to represent new york. I don’t know. I also didn’t really read the back of the book before starting it I just kinda went in because people recommended it, sorta how I did with normal people, LOL and I hated that book too

Super triggering. I started this book because so many ppl recommended it online, and at first I couldn't decide if I loved or hated it. I ultimately couldn't get through it because it was too triggering. It felt like a depiction of mental illnes (which I'd experienced) that was so real in its mundane nature, and I ultimately decided it wasn't good for me to keep reading. Be careful reading this book if you have experience with mental health yourself, and look up trigger warnings

The main negatives of this book surround the plot details that are clearly only used for shock value — the book could've done without it. Those incidents simply feel like a self-serving outlet for the author, as opposed to being effective tools to build this narrative.

None of the characters in this book are supposed to be loved. This book is a hyperbolic satire on Americas self proclaimed high society.
