Came for the plot. Stayed for the sentences. The witty quips is where the writing shines

I think I was expecting a little too much from this book, but overall I really liked it. The idea of the book it self is great but for me it dragged a little in the middle and the ending was kinda rushed. But I’ll for sure ready more from Moshfegh now!

I found this book very interesting. The main character is extremely flawed and easy to hate, yet I found myself feeling sorry for the slump she is in.

Suicidal imagery and passive suicidal ideation are present in most of her thoughts, yet she thinks these away as simply hoping that sleep will cure her existential sense of purposelessness.

The author does an amazing job making this ridiculous scenario feel real, mostly because the main character feels so real. Reva, her friend, is also brilliantly portrayed as annoying, but the reader comes to realize that our perception of other characters in the book is stained by the main character's disdain.

Great work of characterization and an exploration of hopelessness.

i'm at a loss for words. wow.
i completely understand how this book is not for everyone, but i can assure you it is for me. it feels like a massive metaphor for my life right now. at points, it felt like it was written for me.
i need a physical version so i can reread it and annotate it with a complex color-coding system.

just... wow.
