I wasn't really expecting to like this because volume 1 was pretty meh and I am really exhausted lately but I actually really enjoyed this one. I'm hoping to read volume 3 when it comes out later this year.

A copy of this novel was provided through Edelweiss by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way.

I think now is the time for me to admit defeat when it comes to my dislike of (or rather, boredom towards) the DC Universe Rebirth comics. At this point, it's become so tedious and boring to read the latest issues, I'm not sure why I'm shocked when an issue (or in this case, collection) just isn't my cup of tea. In all the good, there has been far more strikes against this run. The Flash: Speed of Darkness takes on an incredibly lackluster path and even its magnificent artwork cannot save it.

While its predecessor had its flaws it still remained full of that spark meant to keep readers attentive; this one didn't. It had an even more difficult time keeping its footing--it was, to put it bluntly, dull. I'm not talking "oh, it's fine--I'll push through it" levels of dull. We're talking "I put this down seven or eight times since I began reading it and still can't get past it" levels of "I'm lucky I even finished it" dull.

uuugh... I really wish this was a bit better... While the idea behind it, the premise of the story were excellent, the execution fell a bit flat. It lacked character, heart... Barry's personality and kindness have always been one of the greatest assets of the Flash's storylines and they were absent from this story. Even the action scenes were a bit meh, and Wally (both of them) took the spotlight from Barry. And since the artwork was also meh for me - not bad exactly, but not my cup of tea or something extremely beautiful either - it was a comic book that didn't really work for me.

I love The Flash. This one had Barry and two Wallys. I cannot complain.

Very Wally (kid flash) focused but I enjoyed it.
Some of the art was a bit dodgy especially in the first issue. And while the art quality in the last issue was fine, it didn't suit The Flash at all. Felipe Watanabe was the best artist in the issue by far.

That was really really sweet. Classic Flash villains and classic Flash themes with that youthful, vibrant DC Rebirthâ„¢ flair. I love Wally West. Both of them; not just the one I grew up with. Also, it just makes my heart so happy to see Barry getting some semblance of his old life back together with all of the people he loves at his side. It dragged a little toward the middle and the first volume was definitely better, but still a solid series.
