I really loved Charles.
He's such a sweetheart and I was so happy to see him find someone who could love him for all his quirks.

I will properly review this later but I have to gather my thoughts and stop crying first.

This book says how it's low-angst in the first sentence of the blurb and yet I cried for half the book, I love this for me. The book just got to me and made me so emotional, it hit me like a ton of bricks.

The only other book to have me DNF as fast as this one felt like a bait and switch supposed interconnected standalone series.

Honestly, I don't know if it was the book itself or the narrator. I only made it to chapter four and at that point, I felt as if I could walk away, do house chores and still not feel lost in the story. It was then I knew this book was not for me. From the little I did gather, which isn't a lot and wasn't even to the put where Charles met Hugo, Charles is the most immature adult to exist. He has severe dyslexia that went undiagnosed and may still be undiagnosed? Honestly I don't know, what I do know is you can save your space in your kind, your bookshelf and your credit from audible on something else.

Charles has dyslexia with low working memory who knows and accepts his limits but still gives so much to the kids below age 5. Though he is not professionally qualified he finds job as support staff to school teachers who handles play time and other activities. A disaster in his last job brings him back to his home and his siblings. While one of his brothers is away the one who maintains their family legacy pushes Charles to take up some responsibility at home. But Charles finds another job interview close to his best friend and moves. There he meets an army Padre Hugo who is injured and healing. Some fortunate and unfortunate circumstances put Charles and Hugo on the same path. Charles and Hugo find their passion and work towards what they want in life.

There was so much to Charles and Hugo rather than just two people with dyslexia and injury. They had so much to give to the story and through the story to the community. Their experiences aided each other to find their way in life. It was such a beautiful story with good romance.

1 star less because the story dragged in between and for not having Hugo's pov in the story. I would've loved to know his thoughts on everything that's happening around him.

The first in the Learning to Love series follows Charles and Hugo. All the books are set at Glynn Harber a fictional school in Cornwall. Charles and Hugo work so well together and truly accept each other for who they are. I also love how Charles' dyslexia is shown through this book.

This is a story about finding your way in life when it isn’t clear and falling in love when you weren’t looking for it. I loved that Charles and Hugo had a right place, right time meet-cute. It was so sweet and funny. This story definitely has some good hurt comfort vibes and enough angst to really get you into your feelings. I loved it so much. Told from Charles’s POV, we get immersed in his insecurities. As the third son of an Earl with profound dyslexia, he struggles to do things in life others take for granted. However, Charles is a sunshine character whose love of children and nurturing them is his calling. Hugo is trying to find his way in life and needs a bit of Charles sunshine.

Charles finds himself applying for a temp position at a school to escape the nagging of his elder brother. He is offered the position with the caveat that he will move in with Hugo, the man he met after his interview. Life has not been kind to Hugo and he smiled for the first time in ages after spending time with Charles. Together, they form a friendship, give into their mutual attraction, and Charles begins to see what the future could look like if he gives up his playboy ways. But with the end of term approaching, they both have to put themselves out on the edge and decide if they will jump.

I loved the give and take of this sweet love story. They each need the other so much it made me get misty. Charles has a deep capacity to feel things and after being judged and found wanting for much of his life, he struggles to see himself as worthy. Hugo is the first person who he felt really understood him and I absolutely loved their journey together to their HEA. It was everything I wanted it to be. If you love an emotional love story about finding your way when you are a bit lost, then this is the book for you.

I can't pinpoint why this didn't work for me but I just wasn't digging it.
