mysterious medium-paced

This was a mystery to the end! There were so many twists and every time you thought you had a suspect another clue dropped and dismantled the entire theory. The plot was truly a Lifetime drama!

Not sure why this gets so much hype. It read more episodic than a stand-alone novel. The writing style was strange, like it was trying too hard to twist your mind with clues. A fine story, but overshadowed by its graceless unfolding.

The worst book I've read so far and I wish I had never started. Idk why people gave this book such a high rating, Shari has got to be paying for bots who rate this book 4 or 5 stars

The logic with a lot of these characters was hard to follow with the decisions they made… it gave the suspense but the story itself wasn’t that great.

I think I would have rated this book higher if all the characters hadn't been such SCHMUCKS. There were too many convenient character flaws that made for convenient who/what/whys. I could hardly believe they'd made it so far in their careers and lives.

HOWEVER.
This was still a lot of fun. There were twists and turns that kept me reading late into the night, and I was able to suspend my disbeliefs long enough to just enjoy the ride. Don't stop to get nitpicky about the writing. Don't stop to think that this would never happen. Don't get your feathers ruffled about the ending (you'll either love it or hate it).

By finishing this book I have read Lapena's entire backlist!

I listened to this on audio and it started out strong and hooked me quickly. But, then it started to go off the rails. You definitely have to suspend your disbelief at times. And I didn't like that it was written in a way that makes women with postpartum depression look like psychopaths.

I'll give Lapena a break since this was her debut novel and her writing has gotten stronger over the years. I also couldn't decide who the kidnapper was, so there's that. Though, I wasn't blown away by that reveal. The ending was clever though.

This was definitely a page turner! I really enjoyed the plot line and despite some parts feeling a bit ridiculous and sometimes too crazy, I loved it! overall! I also did not expect the ending at all!

I loved this book so much! So many unexpected twists and turns, really engaging, and very entertaining!

A book with a great premise but poor execution. The writing was forward, pretty much everything was stated to the reader (Though I think this was a stylistic choice rather than bad writing) it made the characters bland and personalities.

Though there were some good plot twists and moments of genuine suspense it was rash and parts were unbelievable and unlikely, pulling reader away from what’s meant to be suspenseful & engaging.

Personally I didn’t enjoy the ending it was far too stretched out, especially the last 5 pages, which were unnecessary in my opinion.
