I didn’t anticipate the ending so I loved the shock value but it was definitely slow in the beginning!
2.5 stars. Very entertaining and easily readable with no time taken for nuances and description, making it heavily plot focused but moved it along quickly (which is something I was grateful for coming out of a reading slump!). However, problematic in its treatment of mental health diagnoses.

A good thriller with multiple plot twists but little likeable characters.
The Couple Next Door follows Marco and Anne, a couple with a new born baby who seem to have it all. But one night, they leave their child alone and have a dinner party next door when a terrible crime is committed.
Starting off strong, the story was tense and quite fast paced. There were multiple plot-twists throughout the book and I thought the reactions of the characters were written quite well by the author. I enjoyed the detective character which is quite rare of me and felt the storyline progressed to a good finale.
On the other side, there were some flaws to this book. The main characters Marco and Anne were close to insufferable. They had not an ounce of personality throughout the book and it made the story feel flat. I felt no chemistry between them at all. I know with thrillers they tend to focus keenly on the plot opposed to the characters, however there needs to be atleast something to grab on to as a reader.
Although the book was fast-paced, at times I felt my interest straying due to repeated information over and over again. A plot twist would happen and then the author would explain it over and over again. It’s pretty obvious to understand, you don’t need to spell it out.
Overall, it was a good read and I would recommend it to thriller lovers who like a nice twist, however not one of my favourites.
