this one gave me laugh out loud moments just like I can depend on Hiaasen to do. I really like how he can use a couple of crazy things that happen in Florida and make such funny stories around them. He is able to use stereotypes of all kinds, expand on those stereotypes and make them hilarious. I had not picked up a Hiaasen book in a few years and this was a fun diversion. Andrew Yancey is a likable character and so was Merry Mansfield. Looks as if we may be able to see a bit more of our razor girl in the future too. Now to go to Key West.

Digital audio performed by John Rubenstein

I love reading Hiaasen’s ridiculously crazy plots, featuring the NOT-tourist-friendly Florida. In this romp, former cop Andy Yancy (now demoted to inspecting restaurants for health violations) is joined by a cast of eccentrics including: Merry Mansfield (a delicious redhead who specializes in staged fender-benders done while she is shaving her nether regions); Buck Nancy (star of a reality TV series); Martin Trebeaux (owner of a company that steals sand from one beach to replace erosion on another); Brock Richardson (Miami lawyer hooked on a product he is litigating against); and a possibly psychotic street person known as Blister.

The action is fast, furious, and totally insane. The bad guys are frequently three cards short of a full deck. The women almost always get the best of the men. Hiaasen has a gift for drawing this reader into his wildly improbable plots. And I enjoy the ride every time!

John Rubenstein does a great job of performing the audiobook. He has a lot of characters to deal with and really shines when voicing the bad guys.

Another wild romp through the Florida Keys. This one just kept getting crazier. There is a man trying to steal sand from Cuba, Merry who crashes cars for a living, giant rats, a wedding ring stored in fish dip, the Mafia, and a character named Blister who idolizes a member of the Bayou Brethren. I really enjoy how Hiaasen sneaks satire into these stories. I am sad that Rosa is in Oslo for this one. I miss her, but otherwise, a very fun mystery. I hope there is another in the Andrew Yancy series. He really does deserve his badge back...for dealing with those rats if nothing else.

I won an ARC from a Goodreads Giveaway.

I liked this more than I thought I was going to after reading the description. I’ve never read anything from Hiaasen before, but I think I’ll pick up his work again next time I just feel like having a laugh. I appreciated the weaving storylines and character connections, and the “happy ending” was the right amount of cheese. (3.5 stars)

Carl is my go-to guy when I need something light-hearted and funny. Nothing heavy here...just a cast of funny-ass characters getting into hilarious situations.

Always pick up a new Hiaasen in some remainder store or other and am rarely disappointed. This seems a return to form after a couple of slightly below form books. Perhaps one of the most original contemporary crime writers - long may his publisher over print their hardback runs...

A quick, fun beach read. I didn't read the first one in the series and may not go back and do it. I remembered this news story going around the internet - funny that he put it into a book.
