I enjoy the angst in these books. I know they're problematic, but I honestly feel so many emotions reading these that I never really forget the book and it stays with me for a long time. I love parts, I hate parts and while I liked this one a little less than the first one, I still really enjoyed it. I like the characters, I like the twists and I really like JEM's writing style. Again, this book isn't for everyone, but it definitely was for me.

It's nowhere near as good as the One Night trilogy but it's better than [b:This Man|16140036|This Man (This Man, #1)|Jodi Ellen Malpas|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1352790466s/16140036.jpg|21970768], book #1.

This was another really good book especially as i got to understand more about why he is the way he is. Still haven't figured out if he is taking her birth control or not, which slightly has me wondering what exactly is going on with that. They were able to kind of get some of their issues straightened out, but this still leaves questions unanswered. I'm really looking forward to book three and have high hopes for it to be just as awesome as the first two books.

Horrible, awful characters...but now I’m two books in and feel obligated to see this trilogy through.

This series is like book crack. For real, the more I feel like I should quit it the more I want to climb inside it and mount Jesse like a show pony. God, sometimes I hate myself just a little bit but I could not put this book down. It’s an all consuming roller coaster ride of unbelievable, impossible situations where I wanted to scream in frustration and ecstasy at the same time.

Jesse Ward is the most obstinate hero I’ve ever read. The man has no boundaries he’s not willing to cross. The word “no” isn’t in his vocabulary and he will do ANYTHING in order to ensure he gets what he wants. He constantly tramples all over Ava and her life without a regard for anything. He can be mean, closed off and must be in control at all times. The control he wields though is an illusion. One he constructed in order to lie to himself. The person with the control has always been Ava. Will always be Ava. Jesse is a extremely scared individual whose iron fist is his coping mechanism for not wanting to be alone.

There is so many over the top situations in this book that it’s laughable. Anything that can happen does happen, all at once. All the while Jesse tries his best to seclude Ava and keep his deeply held secrets safe. Ava doesn’t understand his motivations and finds herself confused at every turn. Her body craves a man she thinks of as a stranger many times throughout the book. She defies him at every turn and then wonders why he reacts with such ferociousness. I applauded her attempts to get information out of him even if they were shortsighted and she ended up paying in erotically wrote sex later on. Their conversations had me giggling at every turn. Him yelling at her to “watch her fucking language” and her doing her best to use the most colorful language she knows. They’re so co-dependent it’s hilarious. I cheered with her as she literally kicked some ass and teared up with her when she was pain. The more I tried to distance myself from a book that I felt so immune to in book one, I actually got more consumed.

The This Man series is like taking the 50 Shades and Crossfire series and making an angsty baby. It’s filled to the brim with kinky sex and deep emotions that take forever to uncover but are no less real. I am looking forward to seeing where Malpas goes from here as I head into book three. There is no doubt in my mind I will read it now.

I give Beneath This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas 4 stars!

What can I say it had me hooked and I couldn't seem to get enough of reading about their roller coaster romance. I think I was waiting for him to realise his ways and ease up on her and for her to really stand her ground in stead of giving in to the sex. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

But OMG they both drove me insane. Ava turned into a child around Jesse and he was just a CONTROL FREAK!
The countdown's, the watch your mouth when she swore even though he swore ALL the time and her not being able to do anything without him in general drove me crazy mad that's without even mentioning the Birth Control pills.
Jesse is not on the top of my book boyfriends list he is just way to controlling for my liking.

Oh wow. I guess you can tell this one didn’t really improve... Well for me it didn’t. If you thought these two were tragic in This Man”, then you haven’t seen tragic yet.

Wholly hell are these two dysfunctional. If you can believe it, there’s even more drama and reasons for them to not be together. Seriously though, she doesn't know anything about him. His real age or even anything about his family or basically his life outside of her. Ava was scared to explain/introduce him to her family. How many times can I say it, these two are so damn toxic!

Can I say that Ava really annoys me as a woman? This girl literally started blaming herself for his alcoholic meltdown. WHAT?! I wanted to throw my Kindle down. She was so weak and suck a freakin’ pushover when it came to Jesse.

Sex, argue, sex, and argue some more. Did I miss anything?

He manipulates her with sex. Reminder fucks and countdowns like she’s a child. It makes it worse after reading the bonus chapter in his POV because he knows what he’s doing! Also, as much as I want to say that she can do better than him, I want to slap her stupid. She knows he manipulates her but keeps going back for more. Tells him she’ll never leave him. Woman, you are mad! Absolutely mad! You need to get your Nikes on and run!

I should have stopped at book 1 in this series. Being a masochist, I might as well keep reading toward the last book in this trilogy.

In the 2nd book of the Jesse and Ava story, you learn a little more about Jesse. He finally learns to open up about his past just a titch more than he did in the first book. After everything he puts Ava through she stays, their love is the strongest of bonds I've ever read. Nothing can break them. And a lot of factors try. Just like my review for This Man, it's worth noting that I have an annual read of this trilogy, it's that good. You'll want a piece of the Lord just as much as the next gal that reads this. Just remember there's a reason he's so neurotic, if you've made it to book two then just wait to you get to the end of book three :)

I try really hard to avoid giving scathing reviews for books, as I am always impressed when an author has put their work out there. That said, this book has pushed me to finally hit the 1 star review button.

I think, if I am being honest, I am just reading this series because I have started it and need to finish it, and because I get a deep satisfaction about sitting, moaning, and ranting about it to my housemate. Because that is all I did right throughout.

It's not just that this story is poor, it's that is diabolical. I don't like the characters. Jesse is controlling in an unattractive way, and has every personality trait we are raised to avoid. Ava is a wet, weak sponge, who absorbs Jesse's shit, had no moral fibre whatsoever, and is a pathetic excuse for a female lead. The time frame over which the story takes place is beyond unrealistic....I am not joking when I say I could go on and on.

Yes, I clearly have issues with the writing, but for me, the editor has to shoulder a large amount of blame. The book barely feels like it has been proof read. There are many instances where sentences don't make sense, and there are whole sections of the book which are either repetitive, or just plainly shit.

Worst bit, I know I will read, and probably hate, the last book in this trilogy.
