Jane Harper has not yet let me down when I’m seeking a good, solid thriller. The ending is never a complete surprise, but that’s how I like them and what makes an intelligent suspense novel.

While this is much more of a slow-burn and less captivating than Harper's other books (or what I remember of them), I eventually accepted the pace and ended up enjoying it, and it doesn't stop the last act from being absolutely chilling.

 This one didn't wow me as much as Jane Harper usually does, but it was an absorbing read right when I needed one, so I'm not mad at all. Maybe the problem was just that I figured out a lot of the pieces to the mystery ahead of time? 

 I'm still planning to read the next one she writes without even reading the synopsis first (the library goer's version of an 'auto buy author').

I had trouble getting into the book with the switches between present day and the past. The switches weren’t easy to follow on the ebook and that kept me from enjoying the book as much as when it settled on one time period. Good mystery. You’d probably be fine if you haven’t read the others in the series. Trigger warnings are important on this one imo.
