Really enjoyed this! I liked seeing Murderbot's POV as a sentient robot, how they deal with humans/feel about humanity looking at them, etc, as well as the mystery as to what was going on in terms of the company/who was trying to kill the team!
Will definitely be continuing on with the series!

A thrilling book, pretty quick read. Very interesting android perspective, the author asks some tough questions on non human persons.

So happy to have ended 2023 on such a strong note. This was a hilarious, well-written, wonderful little novella and I'm so excited to continue with the series. I got attached to the characters, especially Murderbot, and was invested in the stakes and the mystery of the plot. I'm intrigued to learn more about the worldbuilding and get more answers and go on more adventures.

The end of this book made me a little sad for reasons I won't get into for spoilers, but nonetheless I've already purchased the next installment and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Murderbot finds itself hampered by fellow parts of the security system and discovers how far it will go to protect humans it doesn't actually hate.

This is an action-adventure book from the point of view of a human/robot construct who uses sarcasm to cope. Murderbot is a killer SecUnit who honestly just wants to be left alone to watch its shows in peace.

Each character of this book is well-developed with their own personality, foibles, weaknesses, and strengths. This book is a loving and frank observation of human (and SecUnit) nature as well as a scathing indictment of corporate culture and its logical conclusion. In spite of all of the violence, this book is compassionate. Well, except to the bad guys. They just need to stop.

Tropes include found family,
self-sacrifice
, rescuing the rescuer, kindness breaks the big tough warrior, ace icon, whoops that didn't go as planned, and lots and lots of lovely trope inversions.

Such a fun little read, for a sci-fi book it is surprisingly easy to get into. I love the main character, I love him even more because we're in his head. I love his sarcasm, his binge-watching "addiction" and the way he doesn't care about anything or anyone. Somehow he feels more human than the actual humans in the story.

I'm not really a fan of the plot, though. The conflict came as quickly as it was solved, there's no tension or anything.

I don't feel that the cast, apart from the Murderbot, is developed very well, I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the crew.

Still, I think I'll continue the series.
