This book was very readable. It was written in a compelling manner that kept me going, but
Spoilerthe end just ruined it for me. All of the out of body stuff and the dream crap throughout was just eye-roll inducing and unbelievable for me. It was a real letdown.

Now that's a twist! I kept thinking I'd figured it out - I had not. I could see hating it if you're really opposed to any sort of extrascientific elements in your thrillers, but on the whole I thought it was well-written, well-paced, and the characters had a lot of depth.

I want to start by saying that I did not enjoy all the comments about weight pertaining to the FMC from the wife of the man she had kissed. The wife kept saying stuff about how she was flat and fit and that the FMC was “curvy” and would look better if she dropped half a stone. From what I gathered, it sounded like the FMC was a size 12 and while I was listening to that part I was like *skull and crossbones emoji* because I’m a size 12. The weight factor did make sense to the story in the end but it made me uncomfortable how she was pushed into a gym membership and got ~skinny~ and looked ~so good~.

Anyway.
The twist was so much more wild than I could have imagined.
I definitely was not expecting a body switching story within, what seemed, to be a normal thriller.
I’m still thinking about the turn that this story took, honestly. I’m really glad I finally picked it up after having it on my radar for so many years.

Let me say first and foremost that I primarily read Fantasy. It is far and above my favorite genre and 95% of what I read is Fantasy. Every now and then though I like to read a psychological thriller. Having just finished one yesterday that I highly enjoyed, I figured I’d read another one before getting back into my fantasy books.

This book was highly recommended in a FB book group as a psychological thriller that would absolutely blow your mind at the end. Well. I suppose that’s partially true. It did, but mainly because I was not expecting anything paranormal in this supposed psychological thriller. While I adore fantasy, when I’m reading a thriller I absolutely do not want there to be anything paranormal in it. It’s literally the entire reason I’m reading it to begin with is to have a bit of a break or palate cleanser from fantasy. Add to that how infuriating the ending was, aside from the paranormal aspect, and it just left me feeling really angered and cheated. And that’s not even to mention how absolutely infuriating Louise was. The extreme naïveté of this supposed 34 year old mother was perhaps the most fantastical element of all. She makes bad choice after bad choice the entire book and it’s so cringey that I started finding it hard to even pity her after a certain point. I’ve rated this book at 3* currently because I highly enjoyed most of the book up until the end aside from Louise’s naïveté and extremely poor decision making skills, and the book did keep me on the edge of my chair furiously reading from beginning to end. I do suspect there’s a fair chance of me lowering it after I’ve had a bit more time for it to sink in. It just was not what I was expecting and I can’t help but feel letdown.

I don't like when a story makes horrible justifications for a character's bad behavior, and it's even worse when at the end of said story, after yet another twist, you actually feel bad for that character.

On top of that, the force behind the twists is so far-fetched and creates a load of plot holes. If this book stuck to being a domestic thriller story, it could've been good, but in the end, it was pedestrian and fell flat for me.

Once the main means of the story was revealed, it was easy to predict the rest of the story.
