What a lovely middle grade novel about a girl, adopted as an infant, who now decides to seek information about her first family. It deals beautifully with the complexities of adoptive family relationships, along with some fascinating historical details about the setting (an island off the coast of Massachusetts). Deeply atmospheric, with vivid characters, immersive prose, and plenty of action and humor.

A unique story with the feeling of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. The characters are lovely and the story is a heartfelt adventure.
