I have never been a huge Captain America fan. I never disliked him but I found him to be somewhat overly iconic and almost borderline extreme with the spoon-fed imagery. I enjoyed this book but I was greatly take aback by the art for the Jack Monroe flashback story. For a first volume, the book begins to tell a story but takes so long and has so much dialogue that I feel that it lost a lot of momentum. I might continue this run to finally see some Bucky vs. Cap action.

Such a great start to this arc. The art is amazing and you can really feel the emotions in this one. This is a must read for any Cap fan or Marvel fan.

Instinct told me to go for three. However, it is evident that having already known the plot (even beyond the 1st volume) I had to give fair judgment.

Highly intelligent and creative way to draw out new and interesting facets from a character's history that spans so many decades.

This does somewhat highlight the mixed bag that is Marvel's output on the wider scale. The better of a brand which has had some otherwise dodgy titles and creative decisions. Superhero comics are getting tiresome. The hangover is here! Mostly making use of what's available on Prime Reading, ha!

Honestly, not a huge fan of this one. Of course, I understand this is only the first volume so they needed to build up to the Winter Soldier introduction. But he only came towards the end of the comic. I understand it's a Captain America comic, not Winter Soldier. But come on! I forget Captain America's origin stories has a lot of military propaganda which I just realized I'm not a huge fan of reading. I do like Ed Brubaker's writing in his other comics I read of his. But this one unfortunately isn't a favorite.
