For me this is 5 stars because of childhood memories, however, in a modern context some aspects of this book are outdated, but it’s worth remembering that this was published over 120 years ago

These classic stories are all wonderful! I love how [a:Rudyard Kipling|6989|Rudyard Kipling|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1183237590p2/6989.jpg] gives his own take on the origins of certain animals and on the English alphabet. The stories are fascinating and make for really fun reads. The color illustrations by [a:Barry Moser|21347|Barry Moser|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1308073345p2/21347.jpg] are beautiful, and beautifully done. The few black and white drawings he included in the stories are also neat, though not as clearly defined as his color illustrations to my eye; I much preferred the color images.

I really liked the first couple of stories, was less of a fan of the last ones!

This was fun and engaging. I've always enjoyed myths about how animals got their attributes. My son loved this book as well. He thought it was funny and interesting. The repetition of the animals' names or actions kept even the most distracted 7-year-old at attention.
