Better written than Lightlark by far, yet the toxic relationship bewteen Jude and her "home" became unbearable. And somehow Jude started to annoy me even more than Isla, which I did not think was even possible... Or maybe she just annoyed me in a different way. Whatever it might be, I have no interest in continuing the book... Reading it felt more like a chore than something to look forward to.

I will ALWAYS recommend this book. But not as a Romance Novel. But as a Political Fantasy.

In this thrilling fantasy, we have the Kingdom of Elfhame. Where our Human FMC and our Fae MMC come into contact regularly. This is NOT a love at first glance. It’s not even a medium-burn romance. This is PURE enemies-to-lovers. This first book was more politically built with small hints to a deeper romance that may take place later in the series. This storyline had everything— from the perfect amount of foreshadowing, to beautiful world building, with amazing Character Development and so many beautiful plot twists.

Interesting and brilliant, but a tad boring here and there.

“We came up with your code name,” she mouths. I hadn’t even seen her come in past the locked doors.
“What?” I feel as tired as I have ever felt, and yet, for seven years, I will not be able to truly rest.
I expect her to say The Liar. She gives me a tricksy grin, full of secrets. “What else? The Queen.”
It turns out I still don’t know how to laugh.

HOLY MOLY!!! This was such a cool read. I think what I love is taking the idea of humans and fae and them hating humans. Like don’t get me wrong I love the on their knees falling for their mortal love, but the pure hatred that they have for one another… then the dubious alliance???? OH. Sign me up. My main take aways for this book were:
-fuck Taryn
-Jude + murder = my fave ship.
- Prince Tail Boy is now king tailboy and idgaf who he is Jude will beat the snot outta him.
-Locke is a fucking weirdo and Taryn is even weirder for being an accomplice to that.
- Did I say fuck you Taryn cause I hope you die.

Wow! Where do I start? I LOVE this book! I love how everyone is flawed and messed up. I love the constant drama. It's all political royalty drama in the fairie world. I could smell and taste and see everything. The descriptions of the world were amazing. The world building was perfectly embedded in the story. I wanted to eat everything, wear every outfit, and even touch every piece of furniture. I could smell every scene. I love this book so much. The pacing was perfect too and I love how the main character was not good. No one was good! So so so much love. I can't wait to read Wicked King.
