Okay, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I thought it would be another dark-romance where I would hate the main man and how he acts but surprisingly I didn't really mind Nico Russo.

It has been a while since I've read a maffia romance (well, to be more precise it has been since my Wattpad phase which has been quite some years) so I didn't really know what I was getting into. The story was okay, it was nothing special but fun to read nonetheless. We basically follow Elena and Nico and how they find each other or rather how they crave each other.

The book started out great, I was immediately hooked. I loved the banter between Elena and Nico and how they wanted each other but were not able to give into these 'feelings of lust' because of circumstances. It was the end that kinda killed the book for me. Nico was great throughout the book, he was not as problematic as I was expecting so I enjoyed that but towards the end he became, for some reason, way more possessive over Elena which I did not like because it gave ~toxic boyfriend~ vibes. The ending was also kind of rushed, while the couple took almost 70% of the story to develop their relationship (into sex status) it took a mere 10% for them to suddenly marry happily and willingly and just admit to loving each other. It was a bit to rushed for my liking but other than that it was fine.

I am happy that I read this book because it was refreshing to finally be able to read a dark romance where the love interest is not some walking psychotic (however, Nico is a walking psychotic don't get me wrong we just don't see him doing disturbing stuff to the female protagonist) because I'm getting tired of those.

This is the worst book I've ever read.

this book hooked me from the sentence to the last one and it was a very interesting read. apart from the wattpad stories i have read before, it’s safe to say that this is my first dark romance read. i usually find the genre disturbing because i don’t really like violence in my contemporary books.

this book was a good read, but there were some plot holes. i didn’t fall in love with nico as much as i expected to. he was still misogynistic somehow and to be honest, he really needs therapy. i also would’ve preferred if he groveled more because i didn’t think he groveled enough. on the other hand, i would’ve wanted to see more of elena’s family and her past— to dig deeper on why her father tried to sell her. i also wish i got to see more of adriana.

overall, it’s a great read, it just has some plot holes. if you want a book that will help you get out of a reading slump, i suggest to read this.
