This book was honestly pretty boring and dragged on. However, I did like the main character and her reflections on being trans. Overall the plot was slow and didn’t capture my attention.

I loved this book. It's feels very real like the author is talking about herself. I liked that Lorel wasn't like most fantasy teen girl main characters. She isn't the chosen one who is automatically great at everything and is leading armies at 17. She's often times just a teen who is trying to find her place. Her growing to understand herself fits with what it's like to be a teen girl. The world building isn't super complex but it's a good backdrop for the story. It was a fast read and exactly what I wanted right now: good story, likable characters, and an interesting plot.

I can't wait for the rest of the series.
