It pains me greatly that I did not love this book because I'm a huge fan of the author! There's nothing wrong with the book, I just didn't vibe with it.

Pros: Setting was great, love the magic system
Cons: Had a hard time picturing the characters or identifying with them

Overall, worth a read. Especially if you're interested in reading fantasy books with more diversity in them.

As a big Tamora Pierce fan, it’s easy to see the connections to Alana, and Pierce’s other series. It’s great to find another book that feels similar, but with an updated understanding of gender for a 2024 audience.
