i just finished the book

I am so so angry at this book right now

no scratch that. I'm just very angry right now, I don't even know what exactly makes me angry but i know i just do. And that's the reason why I didn't want to type my review just yet. I wanted to give my brain some time to process everything that happened. But the thing is: I don't feel like I can start the next one without getting out my frustration about this one and i really REALLY want to know what happens next I think that says pretty much everything i feel about this book.

I hate the love/hate relationship I entertain with this series... this book raises more questions than it answers. The only thing that kept me sane in the first three books is that they answered as much questions as they raised, maintening some kind of balance.

But now? Everything is just on the loose and here's a list of things that made me very frustrated in this book:

-WHY is Violet becoming so stupid?
She started out as a pretty intresting character, she had her own way of being strong in the wide world of monsters she's being thrown into. But every trait that made her character unique are now quite annoying because they are pushed too far : Violet used to be intresting because she bottles up everything and never says anything until its truly bothering her. But in this book she in just manhandled by everyone even her mother. Stand up to yourself woman!

Arion's obsession with their ex-girlfriend
I honestly rolled my eyes everytime he says "I will handle Idun" , "Idun won't be a problem once i find her" ....
And it's something that goes throughout the whole book, it's an issue that does not get solved at all, making me hate the vampire even more

too much hype around Idun... for nothing
So, she was derscibed as a very scary bitch, everyone seem to fear her but she's just so underwhelming... I was very exited about the whole Idun rising thing since her presence is what might allow us to get a glimpse of what the alphas used to be. But it's just ruined... they flew to Ireland to because omg she is already back and has likely been watching everyone for a while yay
So long story short: we talk about her for a whole book and she does not even appear in it... even as a cliffhanger.

The romance is deat D.E.A.D
All the competition and the selfishness was kind of off-putting. At the begining it was fun, and the fact that they don't mind sharing seems to be obvious for the alphas but Violet just gets tossed around like a toy (her words not mine). It seems like they don't care about her at all and use her to nurture their ego and pride. They lie to her, manipulate her, don't hesitate to stab her with cold honest truth to get her to cry in their arms when sh's sad. Honstly it was tiring

But as i said, I have a love/Hate relationship with this book and I could not put it down because :

I'm a sucker for complex plots and it does not get as confusing as this
yes i might have complained about the enormous ton of unanswered questions but you've got to love the complexity of the whole world Kristy Cunning created for us. You've got to love how every being in her world have a background story and a reason to be. Somehow, in the entangled mess, everything is tied up and makes sense. For every problem, for every curse, every situation, there is always a plausible story to back it up. Creating a complexe and very complete universe that i really enjoyed. In this book, i just love how everything seems to somehow relate even thought i don't understand it.
(maybe my anger is aimed at myself because I usually don't struggle to follow the logic of a universe, but this book is just something else)

steamy steamy sex scenes
Yup. Cunning stepped up her game on this one. I said the romance was dead but certainly not the sex. Wich makes everything very entertaining. kuddos to that

It's just so damn well written
perfect blend of dialogue and description. jokes, puns and comical situations that never fail to make me laugh. Comic reliefs that always come at the right moment. overall a very entertaining book.

So yeah... This book, like the previous ones is very very hard to put down, as frustrated as yu are while reading it, there's just somehing that keeps you from looking away from it. It's not my favorite but this book is definitely something worth reading.

Picking up again

Don’t know what it was, but Gypsy Moon took this series back to amazing for me. Maybe it was because everything was a lot more straightforward this time instead of everyone talking in riddles. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I flipping love Arian’s crazy. He’s just the right type of bonkers. That ending though.. schnit is about to hit the fan.

New game: Take a shot every time Violet ends up naked. UNNECCESSARILY.

You'll be black out drunk by the end. XD

I liked it at first - the romance is interesting. Some of the interactions are hilarious!

Thing I've noticed with K Cunning's writing (I've read her Four Psycho's series) - her heroines start out super interesting and then through the series, its like they lose steam. It's like the FMC's DEVOLVE rather than EVOLVE. It's absolutely infuriating!

Plus the plot is ALL OVER THE PLACE - WHAT THE FUCK IS EVEN GOING ON?

But I get the GIST of it - so its fine! I'm a C-Average student - that's a lie, I'm an A student in reality - I ate quantum mechanics for breakfast but this - THIS IS even more confusing quantum entanglement. I had a MUCH less difficult time understanding Cixin Liu's Three Body Problem. And TBP was written WAAAAAAAAY better also.

This is trash -

I do love Vance though. The only redeeming thing. I'm still hooked though and I want to see how this ends.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be pissed anyway. I really like the RH genre, but this is disappointing and putting me off.... Most RH's I've read so far have ended up disappointing me! Ugh! With the sole exception of Order of Scorpians, which was tolerable. And I loved the first book of the Four Psychos.

I'm going to write my own RH! XD

I have no idea what is happening in these books.

She's managed to sleep with every single of the four guys by this book and they go travel to find Idun, the ex-girlfriend. But then Idun turns out to not be Idun and is actually her mother. And then I don't know what happened because my brain exploded. Apparently Violet is a Simpleton on top of being a gypsy, and a bunch of other magical lineages because her mother is THE Martha Stewart of all the Martha Stewarts who can possess other Martha Stewarts and we have a bunch of home cooks running around. But she is possessed someone who was already preggers so Violet is even more speshul than she would have been originally.

Also I can't tell what being an alpha, beta, or omega actually means in this series. Seems to be arbitrarily decided on what is most convenient because Violet is also an omega, which you would think would be a bad thing, but no, it somehow manages to give her more speshul powers.

They also meet Vance's dad and see his castle, and the simpletons who were buried for years are finally released from their curse. Violet was created to save them. But they didn't do anything wrong to begin with, but they agreed because they were either too stupid or too nice.

Violet likes dolls, especially dolls that she tears up and puts back together. This is not explained extremely well why, or why it's really relevant. but it took four books to get here and i'm still finding out red herrings about Violet that are exhausting to keep track of because so much of it leads nowhere.

I don't know. I think I am giving up on this book here.

This series just keeps getting better, rolling through the mystery, magic and mayhem of ancient gypsies and forgotten monsters. Violet is amazing, finding her feet in a world the keeps trying to knock her down. The Alphas that surround her are slowly finding their own agendas and somehow putting her right in the middle of the mess - with a smile. It’s fantastic and addictive! Can’t wait for book 5!
